Muscle Shoals, the small town where big hits were written and recorded. Since the 1960s, the city has been known for music. Local studios and artists developed the "Muscle Shoals Sound", including FAME Studios in the late 1950s and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in 1969. They produced hit records that shaped the national and international history of popular music. Muscle Shoals encouraged the cross-pollination of musical styles creating a distinct sound. There is legend going back generations that the river creates music you can hear!

Both FAME Studios and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio are still in operation in the city. They recorded such recent hit songs such as "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood and "I Loved Her First" by Heartland, continuing the city's musical legacy. Tours of both studios are available.

How did Muscle Shoals get its name? There are a few explanations for that; one is that it was named for a former natural feature of the Tennessee River, a shallow zone where mussels were gathered, and settlers named as Muscle Shoals. Muscle Shoals is located in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It nestles up to the Tennessee River in the northern part of the state and, as of 2021 the estimated population 15,087. Both the city and the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area (including four cities in Colbert and Lauderdale counties) are commonly called "the Shoals".[5] Northwest Alabama Regional Airport serves the Shoals region, located in the northwest section of the state.
